ELABORATION OF A DOMINICAN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM INDICATORS SYSTEM – DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

SUMMARY: The main objective of the consultancy was to provide the Tourism Ministry of the Dominican Republic with an Integral Sustainable Tourism Indicators System, complying with the following requirements:

  • Design of a methodological tool to assess the tourism activity current state and its effects on the economy, society and environment.
  • Development of guidelines for a systematic monitoring of the tourism sector and its fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda.
  • Management procedures design for the Indicator System regarding the sources of power, frequency and the functions of the persons in charge of the analysis.

This process was carried out in a participatory way, with socialization workshops that validated the proposed indicators’ suitability to assess the tourism activity sustainability in the country.
