ELABORATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PLAN OF THE COASTAL REGION OF PARANA STATE – BRAZIL CLIENT/ DATES: Regional Ministry of Planning Funding: World Bank. Dates: August 2017- November 2019 SUMMARY:  The objective of this Project is the production of a Sustainable Development Plan of the coastal area of Paraná Region. This document seeks to balance the foreseen actions promoted by the regional government and the local communities in its three dimensions: environmental, economic and social, to promote the sustainable development of the area. The activities carried out by an international multidisciplinary team of consultants included the following: Fieldwork  to prepare the socioeconomic and environmental diagnosis of the territory. Analytical work to prepare the socioeconomic and environmental diagnosis of the territory. Environmental inventory of the coastal region of the state, through secondary sources. Multi-criteria analysis of different scenarios and cost-benefit analysis. Elaboration of programs and actions for the sustainable development of the coastal area. Evaluation of synergistic impacts of the new infrastructure projects to be developed. Workshops with local stakeholders. Planning of programs and actions for the sustainable development of the coastal area. Participatory meetings with local stakeholders.

TOURISM DESTINATION VISION AND INVESTMENT PLANS (DVIP) FOR SELECTED NATURE-BASED DESTINATIONS IN NEPAL CLIENT World Bank Funding: World Bank Dates: January 2019 – July 2019 SUMMARY:  The purpose of this consultancy is to assist the Government of Nepal in preparing innovative and detailed destination visions and investment plans (DVIPS). From this formulation the goal was to attract new investment to work as catalyst and increase the value generated per visitor. The selected priority destinations were: Annapurna Conservation Area and Gateway city of Pokhara Manaslu Conservation area and Gateway city of Gorkha; Bardiya and Banke National Parks, Khrisnasaar as buffer zone and Nepalgunj as Gateway city.

Tourism infrastructure projects in protected areas of Salta (Argentina)

DEVELOPMENT OF EXECUTIVE PROJECTS FOR THE DESIGN OF TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE SALTA PROVINCE – ARGENTINA CLIENT: Ministry of Internal Revenue and Treasury (Province of Salta Government) Funding: Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Dates: May 2018 – Dec 2019 SUMMARY: The project called “Sustainable Tourism Development Programme for Salta Province (STDP)” wants to identify and develop new infrastructure initiatives, to put Salta on the map as a priority ecotourism destination, with actions developed in Protected Areas of the four regions included in the within the STDP: Salta, Yungas del Norte, Valles Calchaquíes and Puna. The following activities were performed: Territorial Diagnosis to identify the needs regarding tourism infrastructures in the different protected areas: shelters, signage, observatories, docks, viewpoints, etc.. Proposal of intervention on the destination to be validated through participatory workshops in the four regions of the project. Executive projects to be constructed. Use and Management proposal for selected tourist sites within the Protected Areas and other public use sites.

PRODUCTION OF A SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR TIERRA DEL FUEGO: COMMUNES OF PORVENIR, TIMAUKEL AND PRIMAVERA – CHILE CLIENT: Porvenir Municipality Dates: October 2018 – December 2019 SUMMARY: Study and elaboration of a diagnosis and Sustainable Tourism Development Plan in the province of Chilean Patagonia, to place at the local communities’ disposal (Porvenir, Primavera and Timaukel) a planning tool for the integral development of tourism. Through a participatory methodology with the local stakeholders agents, priority programs and investments projects were identified to value the natural and cultural resources of the territory, and to enhance the local population quality of life.

ECOTOURISM AND NATURE-BASED TOURISM SECTOR ASSESSMENT IN TENERIFE ISLAND AND MAURITANIA PROTECTED AREAS AND DOUBLE DESTINATION PRODUCTS FEASIBILITY STUDY –SPAIN AND MAURITANIA CLIENT: Tourism, Internationalization and Exterior Action Area of the Government of Tenerife Government of Tenerife Funding: Project MAC/4.6C/151, 85% funded by FEDER Funds (European Union) Dates: January 2019- June 2019 SUMMARY: HIDRIA carried out an assessment of the ecotourism and nature-based tourism sector in the Teno Rural Park, Anaga Rural Park, Teide National Park at Tenerife, and in the Banc D’Arguin National Park and Diawling National Park of Mauritania, and analyzed the feasibility of double- destination products, with the aim of understanding and evaluating the current and potential ecotourism market. For this purpose, the following actions were carried out: Tourist resources and ecotourism market study. Ecotourism offer assessment in the protected areas. Design and production of an Action Plan for the development of the National Parks of Mauritania. Elaboration of a System of Indicators for Sustainable Tourism in Dominican Republic

ELABORATION OF A DOMINICAN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM INDICATORS SYSTEM – DOMINICAN REPUBLIC CLIENT: United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Dates: December 2018 – May 2019 SUMMARY: The main objective of the consultancy was to provide the Tourism Ministry of the Dominican Republic with an Integral Sustainable Tourism Indicators System, complying with the following requirements: Design of a methodological tool to assess the tourism activity current state and its effects on the economy, society and environment. Development of guidelines for a systematic monitoring of the tourism sector and its fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda. Management procedures design for the Indicator System regarding the sources of power, frequency and the functions of the persons in charge of the analysis. This process was carried out in a participatory way, with socialization workshops that validated the proposed indicators’ suitability to assess the tourism activity sustainability in the country.

PRODUCTION OF THE MANAGEMENT PLAN AND MINUTE OF THE PROPOSED BILL FOR THE COASTAL MANAGEMENT POLICY IN SERGIPE STATE – BRAZIL Client: Tourism Secretary of Sergipe State (PRODETUR) Funding: Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) Dates: May 2016 – May 2019 SUMMARY: The instrument of coastal planning and management of Sergipe State must contribute to the sustainable development of its coastline and to improve the quality of life of local communities. Therefore, in its elaboration it has been taken into account the productive activities that were taking place on the coast and the protection of the natural resources on which they depend. The project had an important participatory component, involving all agents and stakeholders in the elaboration process, both of the Management Plan, as of the Bill. In the development of the project, the following actions were carried out: Improving knowledge of the current state of Sergipe coastline, through a diagnosis of its environmental, social and economic conditions. This Plan includes coastal area zoning, that allows the protection of natural resources and economic and social growth of the communities present in the area of influence. The Plan, prepared with a participatory method, contains the main action lines linked to tourism, heritage, education, etc., and the roadmap to develop them. The work carried out was framed in the following aspects: Background analysis and territorial diagnosis. Definition of strategic objectives, intervention proposal and strategy. Dates: September 2015-April 2016; December 2017 – November 2018 SUMMARY: Elaboration of the Strategy and Action Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development in order to obtain the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST) for the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park and Cabañeros National Park, and for its renovation in Tablas de Daimiel National Park. The following actions were carried out: Creation of participatory structures that allow collaborative work with main stakeholders of the territory throughout the process; Collaborative elaboration of a diagnosis, a tourism demand analysis, the tourism offer and a evaluation of the public use.
